We unveil our latest acquisition, the brand new Lindner Polaris Shredder – fresh to the UK market!

North West Recycling is now the first company in the UK to benefit from the ground-breaking shredding technology of Lindner’s latest model, “The Polaris” following months of discussion and investigation with leading shredding consultants Mach Tech Services, based in Manchester, and global shredding-tech specialist Lindner, whose headquarters are in Austria.

North West Recycling, our large waste recycling plant, which operates alongside sister company Brampton Skip Hire on our 16 acre site at Kingmoor Park, Carlisle, is constantly seeking to improve and innovate when it comes to the technology employed in recycling - and products created via recycling. As such, in 2016 we approached Mach Tech Services – Lindner’s UK distributors, with a view to sourcing the best solution in one-step shredding. The brief was to source a machine which would provide maximum throughput and minimum oversize product, yielding a material suitable for solid recovered fuel (SRF) processing. As luck would have it, Lindner were in the throes of developing such a machine, which they had named “The Polaris”.

The Polaris was everything we were seeking – a highly specialised single shaft shredder with enormous transmission power. The universal shredder, whilst incredibly sturdy in design, also boasted exceptional low operating costs.

The subsequent delivery of the Polaris has proven to be an exciting new stage in innovation for North West Recycling, Mach Tech and Lindner. Recently, North West Recycling was pleased to host an independent group of academics from Austrian university “Montan” who put the Polaris through a vigorous testing regime. The results have proven the outstanding performance and technology of this one-step shredding solution and the group could not be happier.

General Manager Dave Bamber said “North West Recycling is delighted with the Polaris and the relationship developed between ourselves, Mach Tech and Lindner. This is a great new venture for our organisation. We are proud to be the first in the UK to use The Polaris – and launch the machine formally to the UK market”.

Cumbria’s Bright Stars Competition

North West Recycling & Brampton Skip Hire was proud to support Hayton Primary School in the competition organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance. The purpose of the competition was to encourage leadership and entrepreneurship from a young age, whilst developing links between businesses and local primary schools. Each school was partnered with a business and received £50 with a simple instruction to set up their own mini business over the course of eight weeks, and through creativity, grow that investment along with guidance and encouragement from their local business partner, with final profit being divided between the school and their chosen charity.

We visited Hayton at the outset of the programme and discussed their ideas and the project itself. Representatives from the school were then invited for a subsequent meeting in the Board room of North West Recycling & Brampton Skip Hire and made the most of the opportunity to discuss their ideas and brainstorm with the management team and Board members. After careful consideration, the school went with the brand “Buttons and Bakes” and began their entrepreneurial journey! As you can see from the photographs, the children worked exceedingly hard and really entered into the spirit of the competition, raising a magnificent total of £650 profit which they shared with the charity “Dogs for Good”. We’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate the children and the school once again, and hope that we can maintain these links going forward. Well done everyone!
